My Mirena IUD Experience

Birth control is an important right for people. The advancement of products accessible for women’s menstrual health and birth control in the 21st century is amazing.

There are many options of Birth control available to choose from, such as: rings, shot, diaphragm, Intravenous Uterine Device (IUD) and more. Today I will be sharing my experience with the Mirena IUD.

The intrauterine device (IUD) is a widely used form of contraception composed of plastic and containing hormones. Its T-shaped design allows it to be inserted into the uterus.

One summer day in 2021, I attended my scheduled appointment to have the IUD inserted. Although the OBGYN  told me that the procedure would be painless, it was actually extremely painful.

While lying on the examination chair, the doctor assured me that I should not experience any pain. However, during the procedure, the pain was comparable to the intensity of childbirth, causing me to express my discomfort through cries and yells. A few days after the procedure, the IUD instilled a sense of confidence, accompanied by pain, discomfort, and shock.

Then the Covid epidemic happened, which prevented me from receiving emergency health services. Eventually, I found a doctor in New York City who was able to remove the IUD and educated me on it.

Although my experience. I believe that if doctors could use a different technique for administering the IUD, then it will prevent patients from having a similar experience.
